Pianos are such amazing instruments.  To me, nothing can compare with the acoustic sound and resonance of a real piano.  Therefore they deserve to be in tune.  All 230 strings!

Depending on the circumstances, one tuning a year is often sufficient.  If the piano is moved, hasn't been tuned in years, or is in poor condition due to age or other factors, the tuning can "slip," requiring more attention.  Also more frequent tunings can be necessary if the instrument is being used in a performance or recording situation.

The note A sounding at 440Hz is considered "concert pitch."  Almost every recording or song we hear on the radio or the internet is tuned to A=440.

Most every piano was at one point tuned to concert pitch.  However if not maintained, they "slip" in pitch over time.  It's not usually a drastic difference, but "raising" the instrument to concert pitch will usually require a second tuning within a few months.  Another option is to tune the piano to itself.  It will sound correct, however it will not sound "in tune" with recordings on the radio or internet.

Either way, your piano will be much more enjoyable to play after being tuned.  Please reach out if I can be of service!

Thank you...

"John is the best! He is very thorough, and clearly an accomplished musician, and he does an absolutely amazing job. He was able to tune my poor piano that probably hadn’t been tuned in 20 years, and he also kindly restrung my guitar. He’s your man for all of your tuning needs!" - Anna

"Fast and attentive to detail! Easy to work with - worth getting regular tune ups." - Melody

"My piano is a family heirloom that dates back to the Spanish-American War. A company on the Front Range charged me $50 for a consultation, then said it was too old to bother tuning. After moving to Paonia, we asked John to check it out. He had it tuned beautifully, for a very reasonable price. I’m so grateful that he saved our piano!" -Amy

More than 20 years ago, John taught himself to tune pianos out of curiosity and to more frequently have his own piano tuned.  When his long-standing musical director gig came to an end at the beginning of 2024, he started Western Slope Piano Tuning - servicing Western Colorado. www.westernslopepiano.com.  With 100 pianos tuned in 2024 and 165 tuned in 2025, John is on track to tune 300 in 2026. Piano tuning is an amazing art, and although John has over 20 years experience in being a piano tuner, he has improved his skill and tool set tremendously through experience, study and a desire to provide great service to his customers.  He is dedicated to continuing to develop his craft by studying with other piano tuners who have skills and knowledge to share, as well as learning about repairs and restoration.
